Jake Berry and Paul Macandrew are highly skilled fly fishing guides with a passion for the pursuit of wild trout. They take real pleasure in sharing their fishing skills with anglers of all levels.

Jake Berry

Growing up in the Southern Lakes Region around experienced fisherman, Jacob caught the fishing bug as a very young boy. He pursued his newfound fascination for trout with great angling success and quickly gained an extensive understanding of trout behaviour and art of fly fishing. For the last several years he has been refining his skills and knowledge base as a fly fishing guide alongside local experts. Jacob combines an enthusiasm for the outdoors and the pursuit of the wild trout of New Zealand and enjoys sharing his skills and knowledge at all levels of fly fishing. He provides you with a professional and down-to-earth experience in New Zealand’s wild South Island.

Paul Macandrew

Since Paul settled in Wanaka in 2000, his passion for fly fishing and guiding has taken him extensively around the Wanaka and surrounding regions. He specialises in sight fishing with dry flies and nymphs. Let Paul take you fly fishing for wild brown and rainbow trout in the pristine back country rivers and streams that the South Island is renowned for.

Like our vision describes Southern Rivers Fly Fishing continually aims to find those memorable experiences that people take home with them to share with others. We believe that everybody has a different ideal experience but a very similar desire, to catch and hunt the wild trout of New Zealand.

Our guides must adopt a very adaptable nature due to the diverse range of clientele and the extremely changeable conditions we face in the outdoors of the South Island. With strong communication lines between guides we ensure a refined yet flexible experience for clients. If the situation needs to be changed we offer honest alternatives for the client whilst engaging in strong communication of their preferences in the situation at hand.
